Lois Carrier-Maurice, CFP®, is President and CEO of Carrier, Maurice & Webb Wealth Advisors. CMW currently has offices in Johnson City, TN and Cottonwood, AZ.
Lois began her career in the financial planning and wealth management profession in 1989, becoming a Certified Financial PlannerTM practitioner in 1993. Today, she leads one of the very few fee-only, Registered Investment Advisory firms owned and operated by CFP® professionals with more than fifty years’ experience.
For over two decades, she has produced weekly educational segments on local television. She has developed a significant following with her refreshing and down to earth educational TV presentations of financial planning concepts and practical investing ideas. She is well known by her viewers who often spot her in public, affectionately addressing her as “The financial lady!”
In 2011 Lois appeared on CNBC to explain the concept of portfolio rebalancing and how this played out through the aftermath of the financial disaster of 2008. The effects of ‘buying low and selling high’ inherent in rebalancing proved to be significant, demonstrating the efficiency of strategic asset allocation and routine rebalancing.
Lois believes the world of finance and its language have been predominantly influenced by men, for men, often resulting in approaches with ‘blind spots’ for many women. Statistically, women infrequently attain the financial security and successful independence that men achieve due to time taken out of careers to raise children, and care for elderly parents or other family members. Additionally, studies show that 90% of all women at some point in their lives will have to manage invested savings on their own. These challenges leave many women unprepared with the knowledge and tools they need to plan, save and invest successfully for their retirement years.
Lois’ passion is and has always been fulfilled by teaching, encouraging and working toward the financial empowerment of women. She is further emboldened by several academic studies validating her observation that women, once informed and educated, tend to make better long term investors than men. Once heard in their own language, ‘womanese’ they ‘get it’ and with absolutely no pain!
This is why she created the wildly popular Women Investing for Financial Independence (WIFFI™) Gatherings. Women find it very appealing to just get some friends together who want to learn about investing, invite Lois and she will be there!
And now, by popular demand WIFFI™ Gatherings are open to men. And, why not? Many women made it known that their husbands or partners would love to have joined them had they been invited. The enthusiasm generated from the WIFFI meetings is contagious - we promise!
